  • Prosecution Attorneys have agreed to drop the charges of manslaughter against Powers Fasteners Inc., the New York manufacturer of fast-setting Epoxy which was used in the construction of a Big Dig tunnel. Once section of the Tunnel, which is scheduled to be completed soon, failed to support the ceiling panels and crushed a car, killing a woman Milena Del Valle.

Milena Del Valle, was traveling in a car, which was being driven by her husband and was buried in lots of concrete on that tragic day. The incident happened in the later half of 2007.

Powers Fasteners was charged of failing to warn the construction contrators about the risks associated with using a fast-drying epoxy to secure ceiling panels through bolts.

As part of the settlement, the family of the deceased will get a total of $18.1 million from various parties involved including the construction contractor Modern Continental, Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff and six smaller companies.

One of the attorney’s rightly said after the settlement was arrived, “Legally, it ends now. But emotionally it goes on forever” for the family.
